A drone that can fly forever without needing to be charged was developed in China

Commercial drones sold in Malaysia have an average flight life of less than 30 minutes because the batteries don't last long. There are drones that use fossil fuels that allow them to fly for several hours. But drones that can fly forever are about to become a reality with successful tests in China.

Researchers from Xian's Northwest Polytechnic University successfully flew a drone that was not equipped with a battery pack. On the other hand, at the bottom there is a photoelectric panel that converts the laser light into electricity. On the surface of the earth the laser system will track the drone in the air and fire lasers all the time at the photoelectric panel.

The test was successfully carried out during the day and at night with the drone flying at a height of 10 meters. The algorithm on the laser system will ensure that it always tracks the position of the drone and the laser is fired at the photoelectric panel.

In theory as long as the laser is not obstructed, the drone can fly forever without needing to be charged. This is useful for future security monitoring drone systems and delivery drones.
