Sony Honda Mobility today announced that the electric car produced by them will be marketed under the AFEELA brand. AFEELA prototypes were shown on the CES floor during the launch event that just ended. This electric hatchback sedan vehicle still has some of the same elements as the previous Sony Vision S prototype.
There is a skin on the front bonnet boot that can display various information such as charging, weather and various patterns. This is a way for the car to interact with pedestrians while it is being driven. Speaking of driving, the vehicle is not equipped with a round steering wheel but instead uses the type of airplane controls that are also used in Tesla vehicles.
The cockpit is dominated by a giant horizontal screen that displays driving information along with the vehicle's infotainment system. There are two more screens to the left and right of this giant screen for the side view mirror because no physical mirror is used. It was replaced by two cameras hidden in two small aerodynamic wings on the door.
AFEELA is targeting Level 3 self-driving capabilities when launched and Level 2+ within urban areas. The self-driving system will use the Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform that monitors 45 cameras and sensors throughout the vehicle's body.
There is no information about the motor power, battery size and the distance AFEELA will be able to travel later but it is confirmed that it supports four-wheel drive and aims to be marketed by 2026.
