The Dutch government has arrested a hacker for possessing and trying to sell Austrian citizens' personal data.
It's no joke the amount of personal data he holds, almost all the personal data of Austrian citizens as of May 2020 he holds, around nine million data sets, or almost the same as the population of Austria.
This anonymous hacker was arrested in November 2022 at his apartment in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In fact, he has been targeted by police in various countries, because he also sells data on Italian, Dutch and Colombian citizens.
However, the arrest of this 25-year-old hacker has only been announced now so as not to interfere with the investigation process they are carrying out, we were quoted as saying from Engadget, Sunday (29/1/2023).
The authorities say this hacker peddled his wares in online forums. The data he sells includes citizen registration data, which contains important information that citizens must report to the authorities.
It contained, among other things, full name, address and date of birth, and luckily it didn't include any financial data. The authenticity of this data has been confirmed by the police.
"Since this data is freely available on the internet, it must be assumed, either in part or in whole, that it has fallen into the hands of criminals," local police said.
It is not certain whether the data sold by this hacker has been purchased by someone else or not.
