Several Amazon employees asked Jeff Bezos to return to lead the company. This call comes amidst the massive layoffs just announced by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and the stock's plunging value.
A day after Jassy announced layoffs that would cut 18,000 jobs, several Amazon staffers took to the company's Slack channel to complain. At one of the focus groups discussing layoffs, a number of Amazon employees suggested that Bezos should return to solve the company's problems.
This call comes after Michael Batnick, Managing Partner at Ritholtz Wealth Management predicted Bezos would return to Amazon this year to improve the company.
"Apparently, not even Andy is safe," wrote an Amazon employee on the Slack forum, as quoted from Insider, Tuesday (10/1/2023).
"He has to come back...he is the best," said another employee referring to Bezos.
"No wonder there are rumors (Bezos) will come back. Maybe ask (Jassy) WTH what you did to my company," wrote another employee.
But not all Amazon employees are outright critical of Jassy. One of the employees said Bezos was also responsible for the condition of the company because the decision to recruit large employees during the pandemic came before Jassy took over.
Bezos himself stepped down from his post as CEO of Amazon in July 2021 to focus on his charitable work and other companies, including The Washington Post and Blue Origin. His position was replaced by Andy Jassy who previously served as CEO of Amazon Web Services.
Although no longer holding the title of CEO, Bezos still wields a strong influence at Amazon as the largest shareholder and chairman of the board of directors.
