Apple Releases MacBook Pro 14 and 16 Inch Using M2 Pro and M2 Max

Apple has released the latest generation of the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inches. Both are presented with a choice of high-end M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

"The MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon has been a game changer, empowering professionals to push the boundaries of their workflows on the go and do things never thought possible on a laptop," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

"Today's MacBook Pro just got better. With faster performance, enhanced connectivity, and the longest battery life ever in a Mac, along with the best displays in a laptop, there's nothing like it."

With the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, the MacBook Pro is claimed to be suitable for those who need powerful tools from various disciplines, from art, science to application development. Users looking to upgrade from Intel-based Mac models are promised to experience even more dramatic improvements in performance, battery life, connectivity, and overall productivity.

The M2 Pro chip has a 10 and 12 core CPU which promises a 20% performance increase over the M1 Pro. It also brings unified memory bandwidth of 200GB/s--double the amount in M2-- and up to 32GB of unified memory, so users can tackle big projects and run some professional applications at lightning-fast speeds.

M2 Pro also brings a new GPU with up to 19 cores for up to 30 percent higher graphics performance, and a 40% faster Neural Engine. Media negine on the M2 Pro also supports all popular video codecs, promising to speed up video playback and encoding using very little power.

Apple boasts that the M2 Pro in the latest MacBook Pro can render titles and animations in Motion up to 80 percent faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 20 percent faster than the previous generation. Compiling in Xcode is up to 2.5x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and nearly 25 percent faster than the previous generation.

It's also capable of processing images in Adobe Photoshop up to 80 percent faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 40 percent faster5 than the previous generation.

MacBook Pros with M2 Max

MacBook Pro with M2 Max has up to 38 GPU cores for up to 30% increase in graphics performance over M1 Max, 400 GB/s integrated memory bandwidth - twice that of M2 Pro.

The M2 Max has 10 and 12 core CPUs with up to eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. It is claimed that performance has increased by up to 20% compared to the M1 Max. A more powerful media engine than the M2 Pro, with twice the ProRes acceleration to dramatically speed up media playback and transcoding, the company says.

Apple promises the MacBook Pro with M2 Max is capable of rendering effects in Cinema 4D up to 6x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 30 percent faster than the previous generation. In addition, color grading in DaVinci Resolve is up to 2x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 30 percent faster than the previous generation.
