Apple Wants To Replace Broadcom's WiFi And Bluetooth Chips With Its Own Chips

To reduce costs, one of the things electronic device manufacturers do is to use their own designed components. Lower component prices will increase post-sale profits. Today there is a report from Bloomberg that Apple wants to replace Broadcom's WiFi and Bluetooth chips with its own chips by 2025.

The process of replacing the WiFi and bluetooth chips is done at the same time they develop their own 5G chips to replace the Qualcomm modems that are used now. It was also reported that the development of this modem itself faced several issues that caused it to be delayed to 2025 compared to the original target of 2024.

The first device that should use this modem is the iPhone SE Gen-4. A combination of modem delays and a lack of response to the affordable iPhone caused the iPhone SE Gen-4 to be reportedly cancelled.

Apple wants to replace Broadcom and Qualcomm chips because it refuses to pay increasingly expensive licenses to use the technology. In the dispute with Qualcomm, Apple was found guilty and had to pay damages and replace Intel models that did not offer good performance.
