Search engine giant in China, Baidu, plans to launch an artificial intelligence chatbot service similar to ChatGPT. AI bot technology competition is predicted to be even fiercer with its presence.
The source, who declined to be identified, said Baidu is looking to launch the ChatGPT-style app in March, by embedding it into its main search service. This yet-to-be-named feature will allow users to get search results in a conversational style like ChatGPT. This news immediately made the company's shares rise as much as 5.8%.
Quoted from the Economic Times, Monday (30/1/2023) Baidu is spending billions of dollars researching AI in its years-long effort to move from online marketing to more in-depth technologies.
"His large-scale machine learning model has been trained on years of data and will form the basis of any upcoming ChatGPT-like features or tools," said a source familiar with the matter. Meanwhile, Baidu representatives declined to comment.
ChatGPT, OpenAI's artificial intelligence tool, has taken the cyberspace by storm since its appearance on the internet in November 2022. ChatGPT amassed more than one million users in a few days and sparked debate about the role of AI in schools, offices and homes.
A number of technology companies including Microsoft Corp. investing billions of dollars trying something similar and developing these apps in the real world, while others are leveraging the hype of these apps to raise funds.
Buzzfeed Inc. stock more than doubled this month after announcing plans to include ChatGPT in its content. Baidu, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Tencent Holdings Ltd. and ByteDance Ltd. controls most of the internet in China.
The search company is trying to revive growth in the mobile era, after falling further behind its larger competitors in arenas such as mobile advertising, video and social media. Apart from AI research, the search giant is also developing self-driving technology.
