About five years ago, one of the tips that was often given to extend the life of a smartphone's battery was not to install the Facebook application. Based on our personal experience, Facebook will often be listed as the top five most battery draining apps. But George Hayward, a former Facebook employee claims the company deliberately conducted tests that caused users' device batteries to drain quickly.
He filed a lawsuit against Facebook for allegedly being fired for refusing to do a "negative test" that drains the battery because it could harm users. The test will see how fast the application can run and how fast images can be downloaded that consume the battery. This is done on Facebook and Messenger apps.
As a scientist, Hayward said he felt what Facebook was doing was wrong and refused to follow the instructions given. The suit has been canceled by Hayward after having to go through the arbitration stage but he stands by his original claim.
