Fairphone 2 is an Android smartphone launched in 2015. It is marketed as the most ethical and environmentally friendly device because its components are ensured to be free from labor exploitation and pollution. After seven years of launch, Fairphone 2 software update support will end this March.
The last update will be given during the month. Since its launch the Fairphone 2 has received five Android version updates and seven years of security patches. Google and Samsung for example only provide operating system support for four years and security patches for five years.
Even if software support is discontinued, Fairphone will maintain a stock of some spare parts to enable owners to repair the device themselves at home.
