In his presentation at CES 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan believes that the current shortage of PlayStation 5 is over.
"Anyone who wants to buy a PS5 can now easily find it at various retailers globally, from now on," said Ryan in his presentation.
Ryan also said that currently Sony has sold around 30 million PS5s, or around 5 million more since they announced the number of PS5 sales last November, we were quoted as saying from The Verge, Friday (6/1/2023).
Sony's journey to meet demand for the PS5 has been a long one. Since its release in November 2020, it was only in August 2022 that Sony's newest console was relatively easy to buy on the market at a reasonable price.
Although it should be noted, for now the new PS5 is easy to get if you buy it in a special edition, such as the PS5 Horizon Forbidden West or God of War Ragnarok editions, which are sold at a higher price because they are included with the game.
In the same presentation, Ryan also thanked PlayStation fans for their patience in being able to buy a PS5, especially after -- according to him -- Sony could face problems with the supply of components that have occurred together with increased demand over the past two years.
ProjectLeonardo
Apart from believing that the PS5 is no longer rare, Sony also showcased Project Leonardo which is the newest controller kit for the PS5, which was created based on the results of discussions with AbleGamers and SpecialEffect to create a controller that can be customized according to the user and can be paired with many third-party accessories.
The shape of this controller is unique, which is in the shape of a moon with a joystick on the edge. The buttons are also made by adjusting the round shape and can be moved around.
This Leonardo can be used as a standalone controller, used in pairs with other Leonardos, or paired with DualSense. Through software support, the function of the Leonardo buttons can be adjusted as needed, and saved according to the profile you want to play.
