The era of the COVID-19 pandemic saw a sharp increase in computer sales for two years due to the need for people to work from home and avoid the infection of the epidemic.
However, with the world now increasingly returning to the original norm of working in the office and now no longer need a computer to work from home. In fact, according to the latest sales report from Gartner and IDC, total computer sales in the fourth quarter of 2022 have dropped sharply year-on-year compared to the previous year.
Leading computer brands such as Dell, HP and Lenovo on average saw a 29-31 percent decline in PC sales during the quarter. In fact, Acer, another leading PC brand showed a 41 percent sales decline in the same quarter.
In the meantime, total PC sales for the entire year also decreased by 16 percent year-on-year according to Gartner's report and this can especially be seen because consumers now no longer need computers even when they have to work from home.
This is also seen to be the case because unlike smart devices, a computer typically does not need to be replaced every year, and for productivity purposes, it is not surprising if a computer purchased even two years ago can still be used without any problems.
