Video game streaming service Google Stadia officially ended today after just under four years of operation. When it was announced in March 2019, Stadia was seen as the future of video games because it did not require expensive hardware that needed to be upgraded every five years. All it takes is a Chromecast dongle and a dedicated game controller.
But since its launch, the Stadia service has faced various problems such as low frame rates, games in digital form that are sold at high prices and are only offered in limited markets. It did not have time to expand to a global market like Malaysia.
Stadia's coffin was already carried and users shed tears when Google closed its own development studio in February 2021. Then Google suddenly announced last September that Stadia will be discontinued today.
Before the service is terminated, Stadia provides a final update to allow their WiFi controllers to be used as Bluetooth controllers after they are no longer operational. After the update is done, these controllers can no longer be used with Stadia forever.
