Goose Goose Duck, A Game Similar to Among Us which is Viral Thanks to V BTS

Don't underestimate the ability of K-pop fans to make something viral and popular. As is the case with the Goose Goose Duck game which suddenly has hundreds of thousands of players after being played by V BTS.

Goose Goose Duck is a social deduction game released in October 2021 by developer Gaggle.fun. This game has similar gameplay to Among Us and can be downloaded for free via Steam, Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

This game is really similar to Among Us, only the characters are ducks and geese. But they also offer some unique modes, including 'Dine and Dash' which pits a team of killer ducks against geese who must survive until time runs out.

When it first launched, Goose Goose Duck had several thousands of players daily, and peaked in February 2022 with 21,362 players a day.

However, in November last year BTS V started streaming Goose Goose Duck on the Weverse platform. After that, Goose Goose Duck's popularity skyrocketed instantly.

As of mid-November, the number of players playing Goose Goose Duck simultaneously was around 6,000 people. A month later that number had jumped to nearly 130,000 players. By the end of the year, the number of players at its peak had tripled immediately.

Goose Goose Duck also immediately became one of the top games on Steam. Last Thursday (5/1), Goose Goose Duck became the most played game on Steam with 563,677 players. This number even beats popular games like PUBG: Battlegrounds, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Apex Legends.

The popularity of Goose Goose Duck also overwhelmed its developers. On January 2, the Goose Goose Duck server collapsed because it was unable to accommodate hundreds of thousands of players at the same time.

"We appreciate all your love and support, we expected a massive player increase but nothing like this," said Gaggle.fun in a post on Steam, as quoted from Polygon, Monday (9/1/2023).

"A 250k increase over our already large player base is too much. We are working on adding capacity as quickly as possible and will continue to provide updates. We apologize for the inconvenience, we are all working hard to ensure everyone can play," he concluded.
