The HTC Vive XR Elite has finally been officially launched after being previously teased by HTC. The Vive XR Elite is a standalone augmented reality (AR) headset that competes with the Pico 4 and Meta Quest Pro. It is equipped with a dual-screen with a resolution of 3840×1920 pixels with a refresh rate of 90Hz, a viewing angle of 110 degrees and the ability to confirm 6 DoF movements.
It is equipped with four cameras for tracking in space in real-time and one 16MP camera for color passthrough mode. With a color passthrough mode, the Vive XR Elite can merge the real world with the virtual world.
With a built-in diopter, the Vive XR Elite can be used by nearsighted individuals without wearing glasses. To function independently, the headset uses a Snapdragon XR2 chip, 12GB RAM memory and 128GB storage.
The battery pack is placed on the back of the head to provide balance. It can be quickly removed to continue use with a new battery pack. The battery pack can be removed directly with the headset worn like glasses. This is useful when it is connected to a PC using a cable. When this is done, it works as a VR headset that supports Steam and Viveport platforms with over 100 games.
Complementing the Vive XR Elite headset is a pair of physical controllers. But the Vive XR Elite also has the ability to track hand and finger movements. It will be sold starting February at a price of $1099 (~RM4832) for a set.
