Nvidia released the 12GB RTX 4080 a few months ago, but the GPU was immediately pulled from market because it was deemed confusing to consumers.
Now the GPU is being re-released with a new name, namely the RTX 4070 Ti. Not only changing the name, the price was also reduced from USD 899 to USD 799 and went on sale on January 5, we were quoted as saying from GSM Arena.
With this price adjustment, at least the RTX 4070 Ti will have a better chance to compete with its siblings. The reason is that the difference in performance between the RTX 4070 Ti compared to the RTX 4090 is indeed quite far apart, even though the prices are also very different.
Previously Nvidia was said to be making price adjustments for the RTX 40 lineup, which was reportedly done to provide a more attractive price and performance comparison for consumers.
What's more, previously according to Techspot, Nvidia's newest graphics card was not selling well in the market and its stock at retailers was said to be almost piled up. As a result, graphic card hoarders sell these products at prices not far from the official prices.
This can be seen from the stalls of hoarders on eBay where the graphics card was sold at a price that was almost the same as the official price. Whereas last year, various lines of RTX 30 graphics cards could be sold at prices up to 4x the official price.
"The market is not what I imagined," said a hoarder who sold six RTX 4080 units from various manufacturers, as quoted by VideoCardz.
The RTX 4080 12GB was previously withdrawn from the market in October 2022, because it was deemed that the naming was inappropriate and caused confusion for consumers.
"The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but the naming is not quite right. The existence of two GPUs with the 4080 name creates confusion. So we hit the 'unlaunch' button for the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is great and perfect for satisfying gamers everywhere at 16 November," wrote Nvidia in its statement.
This naming is confusing, or perhaps misleading to be precise, because the name will raise the assumption that the difference between the 12GB and 16GB variants is only in the memory capacity.
Even though the capabilities of the two graphics chips are quite different. For example CUDA core which is 27% small, then the memory lane which is also smaller. As a result, the performance of the two is completely different, which can also be seen from the RTX 40 performance table exhibited by Nvidia.
