Smartphone Production Down 11% Through 2022 – Samsung Still On Top

According to a Canalys report, the production of smartphones throughout 2022 will decrease by 11% compared to 2021. Only around 1.2 billion devices were produced during the past year due to economic pressure, inflation and the pandemic that has not yet ended. Samsung is still the world's largest smartphone manufacturer with a 22% market share.

This is closely followed by Apple (19%), Xiaomi (13%), Oppo (9%) and Vivo (9%). Only Samsung and Apple recorded an increase in market share in 2022. However, in Q2 2022, Apple was the smartphone manufacturer with a 25% market share. The industry situation is still worrying because in Q4 2022, smartphone production plunged 17% compared to the same quarter of 2021. This is the biggest drop in production since the last decade.
