Study Shows Sellers In Southeast Asia Are Leveraging Streaming Platforms For Product Sales

Whether we admit it or not, since the rise of live streaming sales platforms, this new trend that has the potential to shape the future of e-commerce is also increasingly becoming the focus of sellers. It is not only an interesting marketing tactic, but also helps the seller to establish a good interaction relationship with the customer. This includes new and existing customers.

According to research done by Ninja Van, Malaysia is the country with the highest percentage of live streaming sales sessions when compared to neighboring countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore. Through it, as many as 40% of live streaming sellers in Malaysia make sales sessions every day. It is then followed by Vietnam (27%), Indonesia (23%) and Singapore (17%).

The same survey also found that one in three e-commerce sellers in Southeast Asia spend up to six hours a week on each sales session. Where, on average 47% of sellers in Malaysia conduct each session up to 2 hours. Popular categories include fashion, beauty and personal care, food and beverage, and home furnishing products.

The same survey also stated, Shopee, Facebook and TikTok are the top three live streaming sales platforms so sellers choose. Nevertheless, the margin percentage recorded is quite close, at the same time showing that there is not yet any major platform that is fully used by sellers.

This statement is further reinforced by Ninja Van Malaysia's study which found that on average, e-commerce sellers use at least two different channels for a sales session. This may be aimed at maximizing their reach to buyers.
