The Ministry of Communications and Digital Malaysia is now aiming to present a draft amendment to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709) by the end of this year in Parliament.
This step is parallel in the effort to curb the leakage of user data that often occurs, in addition to adding some new aspects under this act.
The amendment of this act is also expected to examine the mandatory notification by the data holder company to the authorities in the event of a leak. In addition, the fine will also be increased to the maximum level.
In addition to the amendment of this act, the government also plans to upgrade the Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP) as a statutory body, at the same time making it easier for the body to have more resources in combating the issue of personal data leakage.
