In June last year, the Google TV application was updated with remote control support to control Android TV or Google TV televisions. This control feature can also be used for dongles such as Chromecast with Google TV, Realme TV Stick or Mecool KM7 Plus set box.
Recently, Google has expanded this feature to the Google Home application. If previously Google Home could already control selected Android/Google TV devices or televisions, now even more televisions can be controlled even if they are not Android – including Samsung, LG and many more.
The remote control on the Google Home app provides features to change channels, turn TV on/off, pause/play, forward/backward, volume control and even switch between inputs. This may be Google's move in integrating support for Matter 1.0, where internet of things devices from various brands and ecosystems can be connected to each other.
