The Pentagon has finally released its long-awaited 2022 UFO report. This report reveals that there are still many UFO sightings whose origins cannot be explained.
The report entitled "2022 Annual Report on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" was released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) on Thursday after being delayed for months.
The report relies on data gathered from various intelligence community agencies and military intelligence offices, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the Department of Energy, and NASA.
In all, the report uncovered 510 UFO sightings -- now known as unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) -- reported by the agencies involved in the report as well as by branches of the United States military. Most of the UAP sightings were reported by members of the US Navy and US Air Force via official channels.
Of the 501 total reports of UAP sightings, ODNI managed to identify 366 reports. 26 of them turned out to be drones, while 163 were balloons or balloon-like objects, and six were floating 'trash' such as birds or shopping plastic.
This means that there are still 171 reports of UFO sightings that still cannot be categorized and explained, according to the ODNI report.
"Several of these unidentified UAPs appear to exhibit unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities, and require further analysis," the report states.
Although there are still hundreds of unexplained UAP sightings, this does not mean that they are of extraterrestrial origin or some other supernatural phenomenon. ODNI explained that this appearance could be influenced by weather, light and atmospheric effects.
In its conclusion, the report said UAPs continue to pose a threat to aviation safety and a potential threat to data collection by adversaries. But many of these reports don't have enough data to pinpoint their origins
