Twitter Confirms Third-Party Apps Are Blocked For Violating API Terms of Use

Twitter's third-party apps like Tweetbot and Twitteriffic stopped working last Thursday for no apparent reason. Application developers can only scratch their heads because Twitter refuses to give an official statement as to why this is happening. Earlier this morning the official Twitter account for developers confirmed that APIs used by third-party applications were deliberately blocked.

This is a measure of enforcement of the terms of use of the API by developers that have been agreed upon. An explanation of the terms that have been violated by applications such as Tweetbot is not explained in the comments, which in turn makes developers unable to make changes to the application to resolve the issue.

This is not the first time Twitter has made sudden changes that have caused problems. In an effort to speed up the app late last year, several background systems were shut down causing Twitter's two-factor authentication (2FA) to continue to malfunction, making it difficult for users to log into their accounts.
