Elon Musk has previously stated that Twitter will release around 1.5 billion inactive accounts on their platform, allowing other users to register those usernames.
This will simultaneously remove inactive accounts, while appreciating active users who want a username that suits them.
Further to that, there are now reports saying that Twitter may choose to auction off the user's name.
This is seen in parallel with what Telegram has done recently, which sells usernames categorized as "premium" - which is short, and forms a pronunciation.
Twitter is also expected to make this offer one of their methods of generating revenue – not to mention the more than 1.5 billion usernames they will clear for this purpose.
