Elon Musk is said to be not the right person to become the owner of Twitter. This was conveyed by one of the co-founders of Twitter, Biz Stone.
In an interview with The Guardian, Stone said the positive changes he brought to the helm as Twitter in recent years were simply crushed by Musk.
Stone founded Twitter in 2006 with three other people namely Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, and Evan Williams. He left Twitter in 2011 but returned in 2017 at the request of former CEO Jack Dorsey.
Stone says his four years on Twitter have brought him a series of improvements, including in terms of employee morale and content monitoring. According to him, those improvements have been lost under Musk's leadership.
"We made a lot of improvements in those areas. And now it's all gone," Stone said, as quoted by The Guardian, Sunday (29/1/2023).
Content moderation and oversight has been one of the things Musk has overhauled since buying Twitter in October 2022. The Tesla CEO promised to set up a content moderation board that would oversee major content policies and account recovery, but that was later rescinded.
Musk also laid off thousands of Twitter employees just days after buying the social media company for $44 billion. Employees tasked with overseeing global content moderation, as well as units related to hate speech were also cut.
Stone admits that leading a social media company is not a 'win-win' situation for anyone because it is so difficult. He thinks decisions made by leaders of social media companies will make some people happy and others upset.
"You have to be OK with the things you don't like or don't agree with being in there. If not, you should buy a magazine or a newspaper or something that's okay with a certain tendency," he says.
Asked if Musk was the right person to own Twitter, Stone replied: "I don't think so right now, but I could be wrong."
