Last year, WhatsApp released a feature that allows users to transfer chats from Android to iOS and vice versa. Now, WhatsApp is developing a new feature to transfer chats to other phones without the need for backups to the cloud.
This new feature was discovered by WABetaInfo in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.1.25 and 2.23.1.26. Currently this feature is still in the development stage and not yet available for testers.
From the screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, users will see an option to transfer chats in the WhatsApp settings along with options to backup chats and view chat history.
With the chat transfer feature, users can move their chat history easily from one Android phone to another without the need to back up to Google Drive first.
In the next update, WABetaInfo also shares how the chat transfer feature works on WhatsApp which looks very easy. From the screenshots shared, they explain that users can simply download the WhatsApp application on a new Android phone.
After opening WhatsApp on a new cellphone, users can simply scan the QR code that is displayed on the screen to start the process of transferring chats to a new Android device, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Tuesday (10/1/2023).
WABetaInfo says this new feature will make it easier for users because it can simplify and speed up the chat transfer process between Android phones. However, they still advise WhatsApp users to diligently backup chats to Google Drive to prevent data loss or important conversations.
Because currently this feature is still in the development stage, it is not yet known when the chat transfer feature will be released to WhatsApp users. It is not yet known whether this feature will be available on WhatsApp for iOS.
