Xiaomi is said to be releasing a new cellphone with a Leica camera at the MWC 2023 Barcelona event, which seems to be the successor to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
There is not much information about this rumor, other than using a camera made in collaboration with Leica and a 1 inch sensor. The system on a chip (SoC) that is used is probably the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
But actually what's most interesting is the information that the cellphone will be released at MWC 2023, or at least at an event that will be held in Barcelona ahead of the annual event.
That means that Xiaomi with the Leica camera will be released globally, not like the 12S Ultra which is only available in China, we were quoted as saying from GSM Arena, Tuesday (10/1/2023).
Along with the release of the new cellphone, Xiaomi will also release the Xiaomi Pad 6 and 6 Pro. Xiaomi Pad 6 is expected to use Snapdragon 870 while its Pro variant will use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
So far there are only two Xiaomi cellphone series that use Leica cameras. Namely the Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 13 lines. The ones mentioned recently include the Xiaomi 13 Pro which has ferocious specifications.
Xiaomi 13 Pro offers a 6.78 inch screen with 2K resolution. Using an E6 AMOLED LTPO panel made by Samsung, it makes a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
The screen brightness level is high, up to 1,900 nits. In addition, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is provided with PWM dimming support for 1,920Hz, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
Like its sibling, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and RAM LPDDR5X and UFS 2.0. In order to prevent excess heat, a VC liquid cooling area of 3400 mm2 is installed.
There are 1016 ultra-wide band vibration motors and they are redesigned in waveforms for hundreds of scenarios to create a new haptics experience, says Xiaomi.
This phone has three rear cameras. The main camera is 50MP with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, employs Leica optics, 8 aspherical lenses, ALD ultra-low reflectance coating, lens edge ink coating, new cyclic olefin material, and a round IR filter layered process to achieve the same optical quality as Xiaomi 12S Ultra. There is also HyperOIS support.
The telephoto camera also got a solid upgrade. It's still 50MP, but with a further 3x zoom range and a Leica Floating Lens element, with a slightly smaller f/2.0 aperture. The interesting part is that this lens has a close focusing distance of only 10 cm.
The ultra-wide camera doesn't get any new technology, even so its capabilities are still good. The camera has a size of 50MP, f / 2.2, 14mm with macro support.
