Akamai Has New Cloud Computing Services

Akamai released Akamai Connected Cloud, a widely distributed edge and cloud platform for compute, security, and content delivery.

Strategic new cloud computing services and architecture will be made available in Asia Pacific-Japan (APJ) for developers. Through this service, users are expected to be able to build, run, and secure high-performance workloads.

Through Akamai Connected Cloud, Akamai adds core and distributed sites on the same underlying backbone network that supports its current edge network—reaching more than 4,100 locations in 134 countries. More specifically, Akamai brings compute, storage, database, and other services closer to the wider audience, industry, and IT hubs.

In addition, Akamai also announced a number of new things as follows:

Four new enterprise-scale cloud computing sites across APJ by 2023, namely in Chennai, Osaka, Jakarta and Auckland. Like Akamai's existing 11 core sites, including those in Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and Mumbai, the new regional sites will be connected to Akamai's backbone network-connecting it to the world's most distributed edge network.

More distributed sites. In addition to the new core sites planned, Akamai has also prepared more than 50 cities worldwide to start releasing distributed sites this year, to bring basic cloud computing capabilities to locations that are hard to reach and underserved by conventional cloud providers. At the moment.

The new pricing structure is claimed to be very affordable, where Akamai lowers the cost of egress cloud which provides CDN-like savings on cloud data transfers.

Akamai Qualified Computing Partner Program, designed to provide solution-based services, interoperable with Akamai Connected Cloud, for Akamai customers. The service will be provided by Akamai's technology partners who complete a qualification process, which ensures the service is ready to deploy and scale across globally distributed platforms.

"We're taking a significant approach to cloud computing—with 25 years of experience scaling and securing internet networks for the world's largest enterprises," said Dr. Tom Leighton, Co-Founder and CEO of Akamai, in the statement we received.
