American Gen Z are embarrassed to use Android

Gen Z in the United States is said to be the key to Apple's growth, because they are embarrassed and experience great social pressure when using an Android cellphone.

In the latest Financial Times report, it is stated that 34% of iPhone users in America are Gen Z. That is a demographic group born between 1997 and 2012. Meanwhile, only 10% of Samsung's sales in America are made by gen Z.

In fact, in the older demographic group, the distribution of this OS is fairly balanced between iOS and Android, we were quoted as saying from Phone Arena, Wednesday (22/2/2023).

From this data, it can be concluded that Apple's main target market with the largest growth is Gen Z. Apple's market share grew from 35% in 2019 to 50% in 2022, and it can be assumed that much of this increase will come from Gen Z.

In fact, a Financial Times report stated that teenagers in America are very dependent on Apple products because they can be ostracized if they don't use Apple. This is mainly because of iMessage.

This is because if an iPhone user sends a message to Android, the message will be sent in the form of an SMS (marked with a green bubble), while messages sent to iPhone users will be in the form of a blue bubble (iMessage).

"In our minds we were like 'duh, we have to explain to my friend why the group chat is now blue," said Anastasia Pelot, manager at YPulse, a gen Z.

"Green messages from Android users make conversations unpleasant, because everything has to be via SMS. So the social pressure to use the iPhone is getting crazier," said Annelise Hillman, another gen Z.

Oh yes, if the iPhone is popular, then other Apple products will also increase in sales because of the closed ecosystem that Apple implements for its devices.

The reason is, for every 100 iPhones that Apple ships, it also ships 26 iPads, 17 Apple Watches and 35 AirPods. In comparison, for every 100 Samsung mobile phones that are shipped, only 11 tablets, 6 smartwatches and 6 TWS are shipped.
