Archaeologists Find Sex Toys from 2,000 Years Ago

Archaeologists have found Roman sex toys from 2,000 years ago. The sex toy is a dildo made of carved wood. They detail this discovery in the journal Antiquity.

"I have to admit, I kind of thought it was a penis," said Dr Rob Collins, an archaeologist at Newcastle University who co-authored the paper.

"We know the ancient Romans and Greeks used sexual tools. This object from Vindolanda could be an example," he continued, quoted from the NY Post, Wednesday (22/2/2023).

'The Caligula-esque sex-cessory' was first discovered in 1992 during excavations at the Roman fort of Vindolanda in Northumberland. Archaeologists initially classified the six-inch-long cylindrical object as a tool for repairing holes in woven fabrics using a needle and thread. However, upon further examination 30 years later, researchers believe they may have been mistaken.

Physically, the tool looks still smooth. However, a closer inspection reveals that the double-headed dildo may have been used several times.

However, the team has another possibility. Collins writes that the Romans may have used it as a pestle for grinding foodstuffs or medicines. Later possibility, this is a wooden separated from a Roman statue.

Collins said this finding would be very interesting and tickling if it really is a dildo. Because, this will be the first Roman dildo found in the world of archeology.
