Crazy! This iPhone 12 Mini Has a Lightning and USB-C Port

Apple fanboys are still waiting for the arrival of the iPhone with USB-C. But an impatient YouTuber created a unique innovation: the iPhone 12 mini hybrid with Lightning and USB-C ports.

Hyphaistos3762, a YouTuber from South Korea, shows off his creations in a six-minute video. In the video, he also shows the entire modification process, from disassembling the internals of the iPhone 12 mini to putting it back together.

"This is a video of making an iPhone TwinPort. I just made it based on the idea of using a Type-C cable when needed," wrote Hyphaistos3762 in the video description translated from Korean, as quoted from Gizmodo, Wednesday (15/2/2023).

Hyphaistos3762 initially took the iPhone 12 mini apart, removed the speaker, and made a new slot for the USB-C port. After that it plugs in the newly installed USB-C connection to the iPhone's internal device.

After modifying the iPhone 12 mini speaker so that it can fit in the remaining internal space, Hyphaistos3762 reinstalled all the components and the back casing of the cellphone.

Hyphaistos3762 then connected the iPhone 12 mini to the Mac to show that the Lightning and USB-C ports were both working.

It seems that through the results of this experiment Hyphaistos3762 can also charge its unique iPhone while listening to songs via headphones via cable -- something that couldn't be done after Apple removed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7.

In recent years, there have been many modified iPhones equipped with a USB-C port. One of them that went viral was the iPhone X which was fitted with a USB-C port made by engineer Ken Pillonel which was then auctioned off for USD 86,000.

Fortunately, the iPhone with USB-C is no longer just a dream because Apple must comply with the European Union policy that requires all gadgets to use USB-C. The iPhone 15 will reportedly be the first iPhone to support USB-C, following other Apple products including the iPad and MacBook.
