Video streaming platform Disney+ reported they now have 161.8 million subscribers in Q4 2022 which is a decrease of 2.4 million subscribers compared to Q3 2022. Overall Disney has 234.7 million subscribers on Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+.
More interesting is that Disney+ Hotstar lost 3.8 million subscribers in the Southeast Asia region and India. This is the first quarter the service has experienced a decrease in users since its launch in 2020. Despite the increase in subscription prices in the United States last year, the number of subscribers increased by 200,000.
At the same time Disney announced a reduction of up to 7000 workers which is equivalent to 3.6% of the total staff. Since its launch Disney+ has yet to post a profit and the steps taken will help ensure the streaming platform's operations can continue.
