Getty Images Sues Developer Stable Diffusion For Using Images Without Permission

Getty Images filed a lawsuit against Stability AI which developed artificial intelligence Stable Diffusion. In a document filed in a Delaware court, Getty claims that Stability AI uses their collection of images to train Stable Diffusion.

A total of 12 million photos were allegedly used without permission which then allowed Stable Diffusion to generate new photos based on text input provided by users. The amount of damages sought was not specified. Both Getty and Stability AI have not released an official statement regarding the lawsuit that has been filed.

Getty has no issue with images being used to train artificial intelligence as long as payment is made to use them. They also have the issue of Stable Diffusion generated images coming with Getty Images watermarks which can confuse other users.
