Google Will Obfuscate Obscene And Sensitive Images That Appear In Search

We're sure you've done a Google Images search using the keyword “A” but while scrolling you've stumbled upon a picture that falls into the porn category. This is embarrassing for you but shouldn't happen to minors. There is a SafeSearch option but we realize that many parents are still unaware of the existence of this feature on Google search.

In order to prevent inappropriate images from being accidentally displayed, Google announced that they will begin obscuring images in search results that may be considered obscene. This will be enabled by default for all users even if the SafeSearch setting is not enabled. This feature can however be turned off if the user is over 18 years old. It will be rolled out gradually to all users.

In the shared sample, the thumbnail on the search results will display a black box with a notification that this obscured image contains content that is not suitable for all ages. It is very similar to the feature that Instagram has been providing for the past few years.
