Microsoft Will Provide Word and PowerPoint with ChatGPT-style AI

Microsoft will expand the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) ala ChatGPT in its products. After equipping Bing and Edge browsers with AI, now it's the turn of a series of Office applications to receive a similar update.

According to a report by The Verge, Microsoft is preparing to showcase AI integration in Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Microsoft 365 applications. Reportedly, this demonstration will be held in March.

Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans say this demonstration will show how its Prometheus Model technology and Open AI's AI language can help Microsoft's productivity applications.

Previously, The Information reported that Microsoft was testing the GPT model in Outlook to improve search results. In addition there is also a feature to recommend email replies and integration into Word documents to improve user writing.

Microsoft previously also showcased its AI-powered Viva Sales system last week. The demonstration demonstrated the integration of Azure OpenAI Service and GPT for composing email, much like some of the features Microsoft is testing in Outlook.

Apart from helping with email and writing, Microsoft is also developing ways to create charts and graphs in PowerPoint using AI, as quoted from The Verge, Tuesday (14/2/2023).

Technically, Microsoft Edge browser users can already try Office applications on the web powered by AI thanks to the integration of the Prometheus Model in the Bing sidebar. The sidebar has a compose tab which can be integrated with Word and Outlook.

This report shows how quickly Microsoft is rolling out new AI-powered features for its products. The company created by Bill Gates seems to want a lot of people to try out its products before Google can launch a ChatGPT competitor.

Rumors are circulating that Microsoft will initially introduce a new AI-powered version of Bing at the end of February. But the event was accelerated and held before the announcement of Bard, a ChatGPT competitor from Google.
