More than half the population of the earth using the internet

The digital era increasingly makes the world community flocked to turn to cyberspace. Based on the latest report We Are Social in January 2023, more than half of the population of the earth is an internet user.

We Are Social, which routinely reveals the current condition of the annual Global Digital Landscape, said that there are 5.16 billion people worldwide who access the internet. The amount is equal to 64.4% of the total population of the earth today.

"Over the past 12 months, world digital behavior has shown some of the biggest changes we have ever seen for years, even compared to 'Pandemic years'," We Are Social in his report.

Through Digital 2023 Overview Report, the total world population passed eight billion on November 1522 and had reached 8.01 billion in early 2023. As for, 57% of them lived in urban areas.

We Are Social, which this time in collaboration with Meltwater said that 5.44 billion people have mobile phones, it is equivalent to 68% of the world's population. Interestingly, over the past year there has been an increase in cellular users which rose more than 3% or there were 168 million new users.

Of the 8.01 billion population of the earth, there are 5.14 billion people who are internet users. It was stated, the number of global internet users in January 2023 increased by 1.9% compared to last year.

We Are Social said there was a delay in reporting internet user data, so there was a possibility that the number was even higher.

As for now there are 4.76 billion people that are social media users. The figure is the same as less than 60% of the total population of the earth surfing on Facebook, Instagram, to Telegram.

But the note, said We Are Social, the growth of social media users is in a slow trend in recent months, with the addition of this year's net 137 new users who are equivalent to the growth of the year only 3%.

"This main headline offers an excellent picture of digital use throughout the world, but we need to dig deeper into the data to understand how people actually develop," concluded We Are Social.
