Today we reported that YouTube will offer podcast content on their YouTube Music streaming platform. This is to compete with Spotify as they want to attract more customers.
Previously there was speculation that if YouTube Music included podcast support, the Google Podcasts application would be terminated. But a Google representative has shared to 9to5Google that what is done on YouTube Podcasts and YouTube Music is different from Google Podcasts.
On YouTube they want to focus on video and audio and there are no plans to combine the two platforms. This means, from now on both YouTube and Google Podcasts will continue to offer podcast content.
