OnePlus 11 Supports 4 Android Version Updates And 5 Years Of Security Patches

Last year, OnePlus said that select smartphones launched this year (2023) will support Android version updates for up to 4 years and also security patch updates for five years. This is the same strategy as Oppo's flagship devices.

So far, OnePlus has never promised any consistent updates for their devices. The OnePlus 11 5G is the first OnePlus smartphone to support the 4+5 update this year. This means, this device will be updated to Android 17 later and will receive security patches until 2028.

In an interview with Jonathan Yeung, the global product market manager of OnePlus yesterday during the OnePlus 11 launch event for the Malaysian market - this year's 4+5 update can only be promised after they work with Oppo's software development team, Color OS.

Jonathan also admitted that Oxygen OS was built based on Color OS code to save time. But in terms of optimization for performance the iconic OnePlus Fluid was developed by their own team.

But during the interview, he said that there is no promise if the distribution of updates is every month. Regardless, it's still interesting to see OnePlus supporting device updates over a long period of time.
