Oppo processor released in 2024, the design is ready

Oppo currently has its own chips, namely MariSilicon X and MariSilicon Y. Now they are preparing a system on a chip (SoC) which will reportedly be released in 2024.

This information comes from a Mediatek executive speaking at an international investment forum in Hsinchu, Taiwan. According to him, Oppo wants to make its own SoC in order to remain competitive with its competitors.

Even other sources say that the company based in Guandong, China, has tapped out the chip and is ready to be marketed in 2024, we were quoted as saying from GSM Arena, Tuesday (21/2/2023).

Taping out is a term in electronic device design, which means that the circuit design process is complete. The design needs to be sent to the chip maker. It has not yet been revealed who will manufacture the chip.

What is clear, however, is that the international investment forum will be held in Hsinchu, a city in Northwestern Taiwan which is also the location of TSMC's headquarters. It is possible that the world's largest chip manufacturer will produce chips for Oppo. In addition, the current Oppo chip is also produced by TSMC.

Previously it was reported, Oppo had poured funds of more than USD 1.4 billion to create new facilities whose job was to design chips, and these facilities were located in many places, including Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Currently the Oppo chips that have been produced are MariSilicon X and Y. MariSilicon X is an imaging NPU that debuted on the Oppo Find X5 series to improve the quality of photos and videos taken in low light conditions.

Meanwhile, MariSilicon Y was just announced at the Oppo INNO Day 2022 event. This Bluetooth audio chipset promises 24 bit/192kHz lossless sound wirelessly.
