PM Targets 5G Coverage to Reach 80% By End of 2023 – A Year Early Compared to DNB's Previous Target

The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance today presented the 2023 Budget, as well as announcing a number of initiatives. Through it, it was also shared that 5G coverage will reach 80% by the end of 2023.

"At the end of 2022, DNB has reached 50 percent coverage of populated areas and it is targeted to reach 80% coverage by the end of 2023", according to Anwar Ibrahim.

According to the previous sharing, DNB aims to reach the figure by the end of 2024 (or maybe earlier), and through the sharing during the presentation of the 2023 Budget, it is seen that the matter has been accelerated by a year.

The PM also added, "Now, the Unity Government is taking an approach so that DNB is managed in a more transparent and inclusive manner to achieve full participation by telecommunications service providers. There is a shift from the past approach, so as to guarantee reasonable prices for the people, and not burden the national finances."

The move to speed it up a year earlier will surely benefit many users across the country in enjoying the new generation network.

The government itself is expected to share more about the policy under DNB at the end of the first quarter of 2023.

Today, a number of companies have started offering 5G network services through their networks, including Celcom, Digi, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile, and even Yoodo.
