Qualcomm Produces Fastest Stable Diffusion Image Generation on Smartphones

Day after day we hear news about the development of artificial intelligence technology. The current trend is intelligence systems such as DALL.E 2, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion that generate images through input given by the user.

All these artificial intelligence services are done online making the process of generating a graphic take a long time. Qualcomm recently tested the ability of Stable Diffusion using an Android device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. In this test, Qualconmm managed to generate a 512 x 512 pixel graphic in 15 seconds.

Complex intelligence calculations are able to be performed by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 due to the presence of Qualcomm Hexagon Processor in it. The demo of Hexagon's artificial intelligence capability on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was only shown to the world in text form before in. This is the first time that artificial intelligence's ability to generate images has been demonstrated since the chip was launched in November last year.

On the iPhone, Apple announced Core ML optimizations for Stable Diffusion and the Draw Things app uses it. This application when used in my tests took less than two minutes to generate graphics with complex text details. So for Qualcomm to successfully test the graphics generation capabilities of artificial intelligence in less than 15 seconds is a thing that many would definitely like.

Just for now, it is not sure whether Qualcomm will introduce a special application for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device users or just to show off the prowess of their new flagship device chip.
