Samsung cellphones now have fierce cyber security guards

Samsung introduced a new feature to its Galaxy line of devices, namely Message Guard, whose function is cyber security.

According to Samsung, this new security guard is promised to be more fierce because it can protect users from zero-click cyber attacks that disguise themselves as images.

For information, this zero click cyber attack is a type of attack that can be active without the need for interaction with the victim. Alias the victim does not need to click anything to get infected. Ironically, this kind of attack has recently become very popular.

One of the most well-known cyberattacks was discovered by Citizen Lab in 2020 which infected iOS, iMessage on iPhone to be precise, to inject Pegasus spyware into the cellphones of journalists, politicians and activists between 2017 and 2020.

Well, Samsung promises that Message Guard can protect its users from this kind of attack because it automatically quarantines and neutralizes images in PNG, JPG/JPEG, GIF, ICO, WEBP, BMP, and WBMP formats which are potential threats.

When a galaxy device receives an image sent in this format, Message Guard will isolate the image file and scan it for any malware code that may be in it. After making sure it's clean, then the file can be opened.

Message Guard is now available on the Galaxy S23 lineup and will later be deployed to various other Galaxy cellphones and tablets running One UI 5.1 and above. So far Message Guard only works on Samsung Messages and Messages by Google, but it will be expanded to various other third-party messaging services in the future.

Oh yes, Samsung also mentions that this Message Guard doesn't need to be activated manually by the user and will work silently in the background, we quoted from The Verge, Sunday (19/2/2023).
