Samsung Has Developed Satellite Communication Technology That Supports Video

Samsung announced this morning that they successfully developed 5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks) technology that enables satellite communication from smartphones. It is unique in that it allows for two-way text communication as well as high-definition image and video sharing.

The technology developed by Samsung meets the 5G NTN standard set by the new 3GPP Release 17. Tests have been conducted using the Exynos 5300 modem platform. With the development of this technology, Samsung wants to be a leader in terrestrial-NTN hybrid network technology in preparation for the future 6G network.

Users in remote areas and do not have a cellular network can use phone services through this technology. In addition, it can save lives in emergency situations or natural disasters when there is no connection to the normal cellular network. Samsung has plans to use this technology on their Exynos chips in the future.

With this Samsung will join Apple, Huawei and Qualcomm who each have satellite telecommunication system offerings when needed.
