Had gone viral about an animal named Dabbah in Israel. It is said that the appearance of this animal is a sign of the apocalypse, so it is widely discussed by netizens.
Photo uploads claiming Dabbah's appearance in Israel appeared via a Facebook post. "Dabbah Has Appeared in Israel, a Message Animal Sign of the Apocalypse. May we be in Allah's Protection. Amen," wrote the upload, as quoted by us, Wednesday (8/2/2023).
The fact that Dabbah is called an animal is a sign of the apocalypse
The photo narrated as Dabbah's appearance is apparently the result of a screenshot of a video entitled "The Mexican Mole Lizard - Animal of the Week" by Ben G Thomas. The animal called Dabbah turns out to be a Mexican Mole Lizard, a legless lizard.
The Mexican Mole Lizard has the scientific name Bipes biporus whose habitat is in water. Launching a National Geographic report, Bipes biporus is often found in Baja California, the Mexican Peninsula.
These legless lizards are usually underground, rarely seen on the surface. It reaches 25 cm in length. So it can be concluded that the uploaded object is not a photo of Dabbah. The narrative is misleading because it does not match the truth.
Then what is Dabbah?
Dabbah itself is touted as a doomsday message. In Islam, Dabbah is believed to be a sign of the coming of the great apocalypse or qubro apocalypse. Dabbah's appearance as a sign of the Day of Judgment is quoted from one of the hadith narrations narrated by Abdullah bin Amr.
"In fact, the first sign that appears (before the Last Hour) is the rising of the sun from the west and the appearance of reptiles (Dabbah) to meet humans at the time of Dhuha. Whichever of the two occurs first, then not long after that the other will immediately occur, " said the hadith narrated by Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah.
In Islam, Dabbah has the characteristics of a reptile, a furry and hairy animal, has four legs. Ibn Abbas, one of the Prophet's companions, called it an animal with a human face.
