The story of the worker of the iPhone assembler factory, 1,200 bolts pairs a day

Working in an iPhone factory may not be a dream job. His job is repetitive and boring. At least that's what Hunter said (not his real name), a 34 -year -old man who worked at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou.

The Zhengzhou factory is the largest iPhone assembly factory in the world that produces 50% of the iPhone circulating in the world, including the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

This factory also made Apple lose the potential for revenue of USD 6 billion because the factory could not operate due to the Lockdown Covid rules in China. The lockdown rules make factory workers must live in the factory complex, which then demonstrate and make the factory unable to operate.

The position of the hunter at the iPhone factory was to do the bolt. Precisely install the iPhone rear cover and connect a small cable to charge the iPhone battery. Approximately the sequence of hunter jobs like this:

He took the back cover of the iPhone and a small cable, then scan the QR code in both components. After being scanned, he took off the plastic layer of the cover and connected the two parts with the bolt. Afterwards, the component is placed to the conveyor belt to be brought to the next post.

Hunter has 60 seconds to complete the stages of his work. Every day he works for a 10 -hour shift, and for one shift he installed 600 cables to 600 casings using 1,200 bolts. Or in other words, he helps work on 600 iPhone every day.

Repetitive and pressure work, plus a place to live (in the factory complex) without windows and with a pungent odor of chlorine. Oh yes, while working hunter is required to use face masks and anti -static clothes.

In an interview with Rest of the World, a nonprofit media, Hunter also complained that the factory supervisor who always nagged the workers. Even lunch time is limited to 60 minutes, and every time used to go to the bathroom must be replaced.

This also has something to do with Apple's new policy producing the iPhone after the product was released. That is, the factory will be very busy between September and October, right after Apple released a new iPhone. The busy schedule will last during the year -end holiday season, even until January or February when the Chinese New Year is celebrated.

But the workers still want to work in an iPhone assembly factory. The reason? Foxconn gave a salary above the average blue collar worker in China.

"It's hard to live in other places, so we come to the factory. We have no choice but to work at Foxconn with a large salary," said a Foxconn factory worker who previously worked as a chef.

Foxconn offers a bonus that is quite tempting for people who want to work as factory workers. Before the iPhone 14 was released, they offered a bonus equivalent to USD 1,474 for workers who wanted to work for at least 90 days.

Then in December 2022, Foxconn lured prospective workers with a monthly bonus of USD 885 for those who wanted to work for 26 full days during December and 23 days during January, as quoted by us from Phone Arena, Monday (6/2/2023 ).
