The trend of layoffs is increasing, the salaries of Sega and Nintendo employees are actually increasing

 


In the midst of the increasing trend of layoffs, a number of well-known game companies are doing the opposite. They did not reduce the number of employees, and instead increased the salary.

Recently Sega Sammy announced that they will increase the salary of its workforce in Japan. The video game giant stated that the average percentage increase was up to 30%, and was active as of July 1, 2023.


"SEGA Corporation will begin revising its compensation system to invest in human capital to further stabilize employee income and create a more comfortable work environment, as well as to further strengthen its global competitiveness," Sega said, as quoted by Game Industry, Monday (20/20/2019). 2/2023).



In addition, the basic salary for employees who are university graduates has increased from USD 1,653 or around IDR 25 million to USD 2,234 or around IDR 33.8 million. More or less these numbers jump up to 35%.


But actually Sega is not the only video game giant that provides an increase in employee salaries. Previously there were Nintendo, Capcom, and also Bandai Namco.


Nintendo has announced the pay increase in the first week of February this year. It is estimated that the amount given by the company increases to 10%.


This is also in line with recommendations from the Japanese government, which advises companies to raise wages in line with inflation. According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, it becomes very important to do for long-term growth by securing its workforce.


Meanwhile, Capcom and Bandai Namco first gave a raise last year. In an effort to provide comfort at work, and improve the work ability of its employees, the percentage increases to 30%.


As previously reported, that many technology companies cut the number of employees. One of them, Google, announced the layoffs of 12 thousand employees globally.
