Traffic Laws In Japan Changed To Allow Delivery Robots To Be Used

The use of robots without human input for daily tasks seems to be more and more talked about and demonstrated recently. In fact, the Japanese government recently changed the country's traffic laws to allow delivery robots to be used more widely in more places.

Starting in April this year, robots can use the streets around Japan for the purpose of delivering goods, including roads and even pedestrian paths.

This is in line with the efforts of the Japanese government in introducing pilot tests using autonomous robots without human control for the purpose of delivering goods to locations within and outside the city.

ZMP, the robotics developer behind the DeliRo robot program is now working with Japan Post to deliver letters and small items to recipients in the Tokyo area. The pilot tests have so far shown the robot's ability to avoid pedestrians without any problems.

For now, the use of these robots is seen as a way for companies to ensure that letters and items that need to be sent can be delivered without problems, especially in rural areas.
