Users Don't Pay for ChatGPT, Despite its Popularity

ChatGPT is gaining popularity, according to reports until the end of January 2023 there are 100 million people using this chatbot. It's a shame that the number of users is not proportional to the opportunity for OpenAI to benefit from its services.

Sam Altman from OpenAI once said that the processing power of ChatGPT is needed to get answers natively with an average cost of around 1-10 cents. He also revealed that OpenAI will monetize ChatGPT in the future.

However, with the great capabilities provided by ChatGPT, is it enough to make users willing to pay for this AI chatbot service? The Windowscentral page as reported on Monday (20/2/2023) conducted a survey about whether users are willing to pay to use ChatGPT.

As a result, more than half of the respondents (54.4%) said they would not pay any fees to use ChatGPT. Only 12.53% said they would pay monthly, and only 4% said they would pay per use.

A more promising strategy might be combining the use of ChatGPT with Microsoft 365. 29% of participants surveyed said they would subscribe to Microsoft 365 to use ChatGPT.

Microsoft has invested USD 1 billion in OpenAI in 2019 and announced a multi-billion dollar investment in the AI company earlier this year. Bing and the new Microsoft Edge use ChatGPT technology. If Microsoft and OpenAI work together on the subscription side, it could benefit both organizations.

Are you willing to subscribe to ChatGPT?

To note, at this time OpenAI has released the paid service ChatGPT Plus. Not only the US, this service can already be enjoyed by users in many countries

ChatGPT Plus subscription fees are no different from other countries. OpenAI charges USD 20 per month.

With a ChatGPT Plus subscription, OpenAI promises users can access the service smoothly even during busy hours. Even ChatGPT Plus users will get a faster response than usual.

ChatGPT Plus users will be prioritized earlier to sample the new features. But all these advantages come at a price, users must subscribe.
