Open an individual or group chat
At the bottom of the screen, tap the attach icon
Select a photo or video from the menu

WhatsApp users can create and personalize avatars by opening the WhatsApp settings and then selecting the Avatar menu. There the user is free to determine the skin color, hair style, clothes, etc. for his avatar as he wishes.
