WhatsApp users on iPhone can now make video calls while opening other applications

WhatsApp released a new feature that makes it easier for iPhone users to make video calls. The new feature is picture-in-picture (PiP), which allows users to make video calls while opening other applications.

This feature has been tested by WhatsApp since last year and is starting to be rolled out to all iOS users. WhatsApp users on iOS can simply update their application via the App Store to try out this new feature.

The way the PiP feature works in WhatsApp is similar to other apps, including FaceTime. WhatsApp users only need to minimize the application while on a video call, then the video call screen will be minimized and displayed above other applications, as quoted from The Verge, Monday (20/2/2023).

In this way, users can still make video calls on WhatsApp while doing other things, such as opening documents, scrolling through social media, or even playing games.

This new feature is available on WhatsApp for iOS version 23.3.77. If you have updated the WhatsApp application on your iPhone but haven't gotten the PiP feature yet, Meta says this feature will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks so please be patient.

Apart from the picture-in-picture feature, the latest WhatsApp update for iOS also brings a number of other new features, namely. Now WhatsApp users can add captions for sent documents.

WhatsApp group admins can also add a longer description and subject for managed groups. Finally, WhatsApp users can create an avatar as desired which can then be used as a sticker and profile photo.

The three features above are already available for WhatsApp users on Android
