Windows 11 Can Finally Be Used on Apple Silicon

Even though they have superior performance and efficiency compared to Macs with Intel processors, there is one weakness of Apple Silicon Macs. They don't support Windows OS.

The reason is that on Intel-based Macs, users who need a Windows OS can install it, either via Boot Camp or Parallel Desktop virtualization. But Apple Silicon Macs don't support Boot Camp or Parallel Desktop.

But now finally released Parallel Desktop version 18, which is the 'official solution' for running ARM versions of Windows 11 on M1 or M2-based Macs, which Microsoft confirmed through a support article on its official website.

Of course Windows 11 or Apple Silicon will not run at full performance through this combination. Moreover, the OS is run through virtualization. But it's better than other unofficial solutions, especially since there's no sign that Apple will release Boot Camp on the Mac M1 or M2 yet.

This is also a new step for Microsoft, because previously they only provided Arm version of Windows licenses directly to OEMs. So Mac M1 or M2 users find it difficult to find OS that runs officially on virtual machines.

Even though Parallel has supported Windows on the M1 chip since version 16.5. It's just that, in this latest version, users can install Windows 11 with just one click, we were quoted as saying from The Verge, Friday (17/2/2022).

Parallel will also 'take care' of Windows 11's quite complex requirements, such as the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements, which are mandatory for installing Windows 11.

Actually there is one more way to run Windows on Mac, namely Windows 365 Cloud PC, which is virtualization done through Microsoft's cloud. Of course, this cloud version will have better compatibility than Parallel Desktop 18, which has many limitations in terms of hardware, games or supported applications.
