YouTube Music Will Offer Podcast Content

YouTube Music is behind Spotify in terms of the number of subscribers using their service. In order to provide competition to Spotify, YouTube Music will start offering podcast content in the near future.

This was announced by Kai Chuk the head of podcasting at YouTube at the Hot Pod Summit according to a report by The Verge. Currently YouTube Premium which offers YouTube Music has 80 million paying subscribers. It is still far behind Spotify which has over 200 million Premium subscribers.

One of the reasons Spotify's number of subscribers has increased is the podcast offering since 2015. Through the acquisition of Gimlet, Parcast and getting the rights to broadcast Joe Rogan's podcasts they strengthen their position. Like Spotify, YouTube Music will also have exclusive content but has not been announced yet.
